The 69 Eyes are a Finnish rock band, formed in
Helsinki September 1989.
Originally the band played garage rock inspired music and were
self-described as "garage glam" They were also described by
the
music press as "Helsinki sleaze".[citation needed] By the latter part
of the 1990s, the band began to take more influence from gothic rock,
horror punk, and gothic metal. Along with their change in musical
direction, the band became more popular internationally
The band released their first single, Sugarman, in 1990. It resulted in
the bands first album Bump 'n' Grind which was only released in Finland
in 1992. It was followed in 1995 by another Finnish only release Savage
Garden and again in 1997 with Wrap Your Troubles in Dreams
In 1999, Wasting the Dawn was released internationally on Roadrunner
Records. The album's hit single, Wasting the Dawn paid tribute to the
Doors' Jim Morrison. The video featured HIM member Ville Valo posing at
a snowy cemetery as the ghost of Jim Morrison.
Spring of 2000 brought the single Gothic Girl which spent months on the
Singles Top 10 and on Finnish nation radio playlists. It brought the
band their first gold record. After recording their third major album,
Blessed Be, the band did their first short tour for Wasting the Dawn in
Germany which included a show at the M'era Luna Festival. Support for
the tour was Norwegian electro-Goth band Zeromancer.
Released in September 2000, Blessed Be rose straight to number 4 on the
Finnish Album Charts and stayed in the top 10 for over a month. The
second single was Brandon Lee, the third was The Chair and Stolen
Season was the fourth.
In 2002 the band released Paris Kills, which would be known as their
definitive album. It stayed for weeks as number 1 in Finland and went
gold in a month, June 2002. In Germany it rose to number 35 in the
first week. After touring Europe and Finland for months, a sold-out
show at Helsinki's famous Tavastia was filmed and documented in
November for use in the "Helsinki Vampires" DVD.
At the end of 2003, The 69 Eyes were signed to EMI Finland.
2004 saw the release of Devils, their 7th album, to which they toured
the UK in support of Wednesday 13. Once again the album was number one
in their native Finland and reached gold in a month. It was their first
release on a big major label Virgin/EMI. Released in their native
Finland in October 2004 later on in Europe through Virgin/EMI and in
October 2005 in USA through 456 Entertainment it is also their 4th
album to reach gold status and again another number one position on the
Finnish TOP 40 album charts.
In 2005 The 69 Eyes played nearly one hundred shows around the world in
fifteen countries, from Mexico to Japan. Devils was also released in
the USA through 456 Entertainment and the band filmed their video for
their biggest ever hit single Lost Boys in Hollywood and the
Philadelphia area, directed by the band's friend and MTV superstar Bam
Margera.
69 Eyes at Raumanmeren juhannus, Finland in 2006
In 2006 The 69 Eyes toured for the first time in the USA in March with
Program The Dead & Damone, appearing on Last Call with Carson
Daly.
Their new album Angels, the sequel to their 2004 album Devils, was
released in March 2007. Shortly after their Early 2007 tour with Cradle
of Filth & Three Inches Of Blood. Their latest album 'Angels'
was
released on the 25th of June 2007 in the UK. The first single off of
the album is "Perfect Skin". The second single is "Never Say Die".
The band did a summer 2007 US tour with Wednesday 13, Night Kills The
Day, & Fair To Midland,
and supported Within Temptation on tour in the UK in November. They
played 125 shows world wide
in 2007.
In 2008 they released their first live album titled The 69 Eyes:
Hollywood Kills. They are currently writing music for their next album
due in 2009.

The Ark is a Swedish glam rock band formed in 1991 by
Ola
Salo, Mikael Jepson, and Lasse "Leari" Ljungberg, when Ola Salo and
Leari were only fourteen years old. Martin Axén officially
joined the band in 1997, and Sylvester Schlegel in 1999. In late 2006,
Jens Andersson joined The Ark as an official member. He had at that
point played live with the band for several years.
Generally written in a collaborative effort by the band, the Ark's
lyrics are sometimes controversial. For example, the 2002 single
"Father of a Son" is about homosexuals' right to have children. In
October 2006, the band and Ola Salo were criticized by members of the
U.S. public for some controversial comments referencing 9/11 that were
apparently part of the joking banter between songs as the band
performed at the opening festivities for the new Swedish embassy in
Washington, D.C. This was unfortunate timing, as the free
concert
was the kick off for the band's U.S. tour.
The Ark participated in the Swedish Melodifestivalen 2007 with the song
"The Worrying Kind". The song, which won the contest after capturing
both the popular vote and the jury's vote, was written by Ola Salo. The
song was Sweden's Eurovision 2007 entry, and is also included in The
Ark's fourth album Prayer for the Weekend, released in April 2007.
Despite being a bookmaker favorite, they finished in 18th place (out of
24) with only 51 points, compared to winning Serbia's 268 points.
"Absolutely No Decorum", the first single from the album, was released
in January 2007.
The Ark has collaborated with artists such as The Darkness and The
Cardigans.
"One Of Us Is Gonna Die Young" was used in the 2007 snowboarding video,
"Picture This" from Mack Dawg Productions for Seth Huot and Andreas
Wiig's video part.

The Rasmus are a Finnish rock band that formed in
1994 in
Helsinki, Finland while the band members were still in high school. The
original band members were Lauri Ylönen (lead
singer/songwriter),
Eero Heinonen (bass), Pauli Rantasalmi (guitar) and Janne Heiskanen
(drums). The former drummer Heiskanen quit the band in 1998 and got
soon replaced by Aki Hakala.
Before releasing their fourth studio album Into (2001), they were
simply known as Rasmus, but changed their name to The Rasmus in order
to avoid being confused with a Swedish DJ of the same name. Their 2003
hit "In the Shadows" made them famous outside Scandinavia and received
worldwide press attention.
Today the band is one of Finland's most successful bands with more than
1,5 million sold albums worldwide, eight gold awards and five platinum
awards.[5] They have released six studio albums, one compilation album
and 21 singles. Some of the band's most famous songs are the singles
"Liquid", "F-F-F-Falling", "In the Shadows", "First Day of My Life",
"Funeral Song" , "No Fear" and "Guilty"
Early days (1994)
Lauri Ylönen and Eero Heinonen met each other in third grade
when
they both were nine years old, and have been close friends during the
school years since. When they started at Suutarila high school in the
early 1990s, they met Pauli Rantasalmi and later Janne Heiskanen. In
1994 they decided to create their own band in school. They practiced a
lot, and at the end of the year they played their very first show
before the Christmas holiday. At that time they were initially known as
Sputnik, then Antilla then Trashmosh and then simply Rasmus (a
Scandinavian man's name that comes from the Greek Erasmus, which means
loveable).
Peep (1995-1996)
In 1995 they met their first manager, Teja Kotilainen, and recorded
their first EP-single, 1st (released independently through Teja G.
Records in late 1995) before signing with Warner Music Finland to
release their first studio album, Peep, in 1996. It went Gold as the
band played over 100 shows in Finland, Russia and Estonia. Later in
1996 they won an EMMA (the Finnish equivalent of a Grammy) for Best New
Act of 1996. They also released two more singles from the album: 2nd
and 3rd. 3rd was the first single to hit the chart lists - it went to
#8 at the Finnish Singles Chart.
Playboys (1997)
Rasmus released their second studio album, Playboys, in August 1997.
This record also went gold in Finland, along with its single "Blue".
The album was quite similar to Peep, but they had more additional
musicians this time. Many of them played saxophone and trumpet. This
gave the album a mixed genre of rock, funk and ska. It was not produced
by Teja Kotilainen this time. Their new producer was named Illka
Herkman. Rasmus' grueling live schedule included supporting Rancid and
Dog Eat Dog, and appearing at a festival at the Helsinki Olympic
Stadium in front of a crowd of 40 000 and on national television. They
released a music video to the single " Playboys" which was directed by
themselves and Illka Herkman.
Hell of a Tester (1998-1999)
The band's third studio album, Hell of a Tester, was released in 1998
with a video for the single "Liquid". It was in the Top 40 on Nordic
MTV and was voted Song of the Year by Finnish music critics and fans.
The band achieved further recognition supporting Garbage and Red Hot
Chili Peppers when they toured Finland.
Into (2000-2002)
Rasmus became "The Rasmus" in 2000, after replacing drummer Janne
Heiskanen with drumming merchandise-seller Aki Hakala. In 2001, they
signed to Playground Music Scandinavia and took on Seppo Vesterinen as
their new manager. They released the album Into in Finland, where it
went double platinum, debuting at #1. This was their first album to be
produced by Mikael Nord Andersson and Martin Hansen at Nord Studios in
Stockholm, Sweden. Nord and Andresson also produced their next two
albums. The first single from the album "F-F-F-Falling" was #1 in
Finland for three months in early 2001. The second single, "Chill", was
released in Scandinavia, and reached #2 in Finland. Into was soon
released in other European countries, including Germany, Sweden,
Norway, Italy, France and Spain. The Rasmus toured throughout
Scandinavia and Europe, promoting the album, and being the supporting
acts to bands HIM and Roxette.
Dead Letters (2003-2004)
The band recorded Dead Letters at Nord Studios in Sweden and it was
released in Europe in early 2003, reaching the top of the album charts
in Germany, Austria and Switzerland, as well as in Finland. Its
European success led to the release of the album in other parts of the
world and the album has sold 1.5 million copies worldwide. Dead Letters
went Top 10 in the UK, and its first single, In the Shadows, went Top
3. Both also went Top 50 in the Australian ARIA charts in 2004, as well
as topping the New Zealand singles chart. The single also reached the
Top 20 of the American Billboard Heatseeker charts. In the Shadows
gained Top 10 chart placings in eleven countries. Recently, iTunes
Music Store offered the second track on Dead Letters, "In the Shadows",
as one of its free singles. Guilty was the band's second single for the
American and British market. The Rasmus' previous discography was
released internationally too. The band toured a lot in 2004 and early
2005 before taking six months off to record their next album.
The Rasmus tend to provoke strong opinions in people. They made a
notable appearance at the Reading Festival in 2004, where they were a
victim of bottling, being pelted with plastic bottles and mud until
they eventually walked offstage, immediate medical attention being
required for bassist Heinonen's eye.
Hide from the Sun (2005-2006)
Their latest album is Hide from the Sun, which was released in 2005.
Three singles have been released from it: "No Fear", "Sail Away" and
"Shot". Hide from the Sun was released in the U.S. on October 10, 2006
from their new U.S. label, DRT Entertainment. In 2005, they won Best
Nordic Act at the MTV Nordic Awards and at the NRJ Radio Awards and
Best Finnish Act at MTV Europe Music Awards. They have toured with
Lostprophets and Negative. On April 28, 2006 they received an exclusive
statue at the ESKA Music Awards in Poland (it is their second ESKA
statue, the first being in 2004) for the category Best World Rock Group.
The name of the band
The name "Rasmus" does not actually mean anything; the band have said
in interviews that they chose it because it sounds Finnish and it is
easy to remember. However, bassist Eero Heinonen said in a Swedish
interview that it came from the words "trash" and "mosh". In Sweden and
Denmark "Rasmus" is a boy name. It was the ex-drummer Janne Heiskanen
who came up with the name.
Music videos
For a complete list of the band's music videos, see The Rasmus
discography.
The Rasmus have released a total of nine music videos (including three
different versions of In the Shadows). Niklas Fronda & Fredrik
Löfberg of Baranga Film have directed three of the band's
videos,
all from Dead Letters. Dead Letters is the album with most music
videos: seven videos have been released from the album. But that is
also their most important album.
The first video they ever made was the one to Funky Jam, 1996. It was
not a very big success, since it did not have a deep story, unlike
their following videos.
The Story goes on....
The Rasmus will release a new album "Black roses" in 2008. Lauri is
going to become father with Paula (PMMP) in the beginning of 2008.

The Pleasures are a five-piece glamrock band from Hamburg, Germany,
born of a love for all things outrageous and gender-transcending.
It was experiencing Ziggy Stardust and Velvet Goldmine for the first
time in 2000 that prompted Dancette (vocals) to start working on a
‘side-project’, as the band he was in at the time
was not
glitzy enough by far. In 2004 he joined forces with Lord Vivian (vocals
& guitar), it became much more than a side-project, and the
first
few The Pleasures songs were born. Shortly thereafter, the band
acquired its all important bass player, drummer and second guitarist,
all five now a tightly-knit crew who describe the band as
“pure
life without limits”.
Priding themselves on their gregarious, trashy, between-gender image,
they create infectious hardglamrock, oozing with addictive hooks,
searing riffs and some face-melting vocals. The voices of Dancette
& The Lord compliment each other radiantly, striking against
the
dramatic backdrop of thick, screeching, guitars and throbbing drums.
The Pleasures are a passionate, hard-working band, Lord Vivian is not
only guitarist, second vocalist & co-songwriter, but he has
also
produced all of the bands’ recorded material, including the
EP
‘Cuming Out’ (June, 2005) and the 16 track debut
album
‘Greatest Hits’ (June, 2006). A single release in
April 2007, ‘Some Like It Rock’,
precedes the upcoming double album, ‘Oh Yeah’,
which is set for release in late summer 2007.
Always with a
string of shows - including international dates - lined up, the band
are hell bent on spreading The Pleasure as far and wide as possible.
They easily secured themselves a strong fanbase in Germany, and boast
support slots for the likes of Hanoi Rocks and the legendary T-Rex.
They embarked
upon their first UK tour in July 2006, stunning a multitude of Brits
with their mesmerising live shows and earning themselves a gaggle of
brand new fans. An equally raucous and triumphant tour of Italy with
Motorcity Brags followed in April 2007. And a return to the UK in March
2008, as tour support for Patchwork Grace, proved a Herculean success
as they truly captured the hearts of everybody at every show.
With each
performance this band gets stronger, their following gets bigger, and
the incandescent haze of glitter, make-up and fake blood that travels
with them, infiltrates the hearts of all those in its path.
Plans are now afoot to storm Japan, Scandinavia and the U.S.
Tristania is a gothic metal band from Norway, formed in the end of 1996
by Morten Veland, Einar Moen and Kenneth Olsson.
Tristania's music is usually classified as gothic metal with doom metal
influences, due to its strong ties with the genre's history, and the
band making use of styles and traits typical of the gothic metal genre.
On their first releases the band had a sound based on black metal riffs
with dominant eerie keyboard and powerful drums, which releases
Tristania put a lot of focus around operatic female vocals, haunting
choruses and classical instruments such as pipe organ, flutes and
violins. Those gothic elements enrich their fast-paced heavy black
metal riffing giving it added depth.
Tristania uses heavy black metal riffs with atmospheric keyboard and
choirs. There was a bigger focus on the death vocals of Morten Veland.
A strong influence in their music is doom metal, which can be heard in
the slow, melancholic riffing. This combination of death vocals with
female operatics and majestic gothic choruses is believed by many fans
to have reached its pinnacle on their Beyond the Veil album.
In recent years Tristania stepped back from the bombastic
layer-over-layer productions and focused more on balancing the various
vocal styles and progressing their sound without losing the overall
feeling.
On their fourth album Ashes the vocal duties were done by the following:
(Operatic) female vocals - provided by Vibeke Stene.
Death Vocals (grunts, growls and screams) - done by Kjetil Ingebrethsen
and guitarist Anders Høyvik Hidle.
Clean vocals (hollow baritone) - provided by Østen
Bergøy.
Their newest album, Illumination, featured the same vocalists minus
Kjetil. The amount grunts on the the said album is very reduced when
compared to their previous work, and the ones that do appear are
courtesy of Vorph from the band Samael.
Tristania was formed at the end of 1996 by Morten Veland, Einar Moen
and Kenneth Olsson from the remains of their previous band Uzi Suicide.
Later, Anders H. Hidle and Vibeke Stene joined the band, along with
bassist Rune Osterhus. In May 1997 their first EP, Tristania, was
released. The same year Tristania released its first full length album,
Widow's Weeds. A year later, following the Angina single, they recorded
their second full length album, titled Beyond the Veil, which is
thought by many fans to be not only the best Tristania project but also
the album which best represents the band's sound. The music is
considered very atmospheric and full of deep melodic passion. Morten
Veland was by then almost like a leader to the group, as he composed
most of their works, wrote lyrics, played guitar and sang growling
vocals. He was fired (according to his version of events) from the band
after the release of Beyond the Veil due to what the remaining members
refer to only as "musical and social differences".
In 2001 their third album, World of Glass was released. This album was
a little different in style and the departure of Veland was
significant, as the sound of this album was a combination of typical
'Tristanian' sound. The growling vocals on this album were sung by
Ronny Thorsen, a member of Trail of Tears, and the clean vocals were
sung by Jan Kenneth Barkved and Østen Bergøy.
Bergøy then joined the band as a permanent member, and so
did
Kjetil Ingebrethsen, who was in charge of singing growling vocals.
The band's fourth album – Ashes (2005) – was the
first of
Tristania's albums on the SPV label after their contract with Napalm
Records expired. The album takes the once heavily atmospheric gothic
sound of the band and replaces it with a decidedly more progressive
style. The choirs are gone, as are the more challenging vocal parts
reminiscent of World of Glass and Beyond the Veil. Hidle and Einar Moen
add their vocals to certain tracks on the album. Two of the songs were
actually written by the Tristania.com webmaster, Kjartan Hermansen
("Libre" and "Circus") while the song "The Wretched" is based on
"Ascending: Descending" – a poem by Hermansen. Also on Ashes,
the
violins of Pete Johansen – which so often accompanied the
previous Tristania albums – were replaced by the cello
melodies
of Hans Josef Groh. The album marked a lyrical and musical
simplification of the band from the days of Morten Veland, more so than
the first album without Veland, World of Glass.
The Ashes Tour in Europe (minus Einar Moen, who remained at home to
work on more material for the band, but is still an active member)
brought about another change for the band, the addition of a second
guitarist – Svein Terje Solvang – who previously
played
with the band for touring purposes. His addition to the band as a
permanent member in May 2005 is the first time Tristania has had a
two-guitarist team since Beyond the Veil.
In April 2006, Kjetil Ingebrethsen left Tristania to embark on a lower
level musical career.
On February 27 2007, Vibeke Stene left the band due to personal
reasons.
On October 19 2007, Italian singer Mariangela Demurtas (ex-Reel
Fiction, Alight) is announced as
the new female singer. Her strong voice (very different from Vibeke's)
seems to foreshadow deeper
changes in the style of the band.
