Trash Fest II - Gloria/Helsinki 20.03.2009
For the second Trash Fest at Gloria Helsinki again a much diversified
program including bands from different European countries was arranged.
On Friday evening you could see on stage:
20: 00 New Generation Superstars (UK)
21:00 Violent Divine (SWE)
22:00 Dope Stars Inc. (ITA)
23:00 Stoneman (Switzerland)
and
24:00 Private Line (FIN)
Well, as I did the „long“ journey to Helsinki just because
of Private Line, my memories concerning the earlier bands are a little
bit sparse. So, dear fan or reader, please excuse the shortness:
New Generation Superstars
About 20:00 Trash Fest started and truly spoken there weren’t
many people in the crowd to listen to the first band. But these few
people who where „camping in front of the stage“ caused
good moods. About the band: I remember the singer because of his nearly
whole-body-tattoos.
Violent Divine
During this bands’ gig I was unfortunately testing the first
floors’ quality. My personal result: It’s nice to be there
and you can get alcoholic drinks only up there. But if you want to take
pictures or enjoy a band, go downstairs.
Dope Stars Inc.
In the meantime Gloria-club was to be filled more and more and a good rock-party-feeling took rise.
The Fanbase from Dope Stars Inc. caused high spirits that immediately
spread over to the rest of the audience. The crowd stuck to the music
that especially distinguished from the other bands by its - they call
it - cyberpunk- style.
Even a bonus song was requested and if I remember right we got it.
Stoneman
A band from Switzerland (in contrast to the information on the stage
list, they where NOT from Sweden) that somehow takes to get used to it.
Most of their songs were in English. The one and only song I can
remember was a song in German having the sonorous name
“Ficken”.
I refer the throng in the front rows back to the beginning of the
struggle for the best position during the following Private Line gig.
Private Line
- New intro, new songs -
After a “pirate-intro“ Private Line played as already announced some new songs, two in number.
The concert was opened with the new song: Live Learn & Grow apart -
as usual a well-done combination from hart guitar sound accompanied by
the seizing voice from singer Sammy.
But all in all the „new sound“ is different from former
pieces, maybe a little bit more psychedelic, hard to describe. Just
wait for it and listen and you’ll find a maybe darker but a
somehow good old-fashioned, typical Private Line song. Special
highlight (at least on stage): More background vocals from guitarist
Jack than before.
After some moments of inurnment the crowd were swept off their feet,
the new song was highly enjoyed. The gig was dominated by the already
known material. Especially during songs like Sound Advice, Gods of
Rewind or Broken Promised Land huge parts of the audience accompanied
the band by singing together with them. The audience was in high
spirits.
The second new song 13th Step from the Grave reflects more darker,
thoughtful and pensive feelings. Calmer vocal parts combined with
impressive guitar parts create a strange but touching grove. So the
waiting for the next album (whenever it will be released) seems to be
worth it. The band received delighted the audiences’ enthusiasm.
Jack let himself be carried away to do a guitar solo. Both he and Sammy
addressed a few words to the zealous crowd.
After they played Billion Star Hotel the audience clamoured for some
bonus songs, which were shortly after introduced by a grinning Sammy
singing Cheerleaders & Dopedealers.
The concert faded off by songs like Forever and a Day and Grown like Others.
By the way: The mass of German PL-fans was striking. It was even
possible to make out well known faces from the German tour among the
fans.
